Is More Necessarily Better?
No
A herb with a broad therapeutic range is safe. Most herbs have an extremely broad therapeutic range. It is very difficult or even impossible to take a toxic dose of most herbs. Chamomile for example can be taken in small or large quantities with no adverse effects.

On the other hand:
There are however certain herbs that need to used with caution, their therapeutic range being somewhat narrower. For example lily of the valley has specific effects on the heart similar to digitalis. It is important in this case to ensure that the correct dosage is observed. An example closer to home might be coffee, where most of us are aware of its effects when we drink too much.
The therapeutic range is a measure of the safety of the herb and is the difference between the smallest dose that will do anyone any good and the largest dose that everyone can take without causing harm. From this you will have gathered that a herb with a narrow therapeutic range is more potent and one with a wide therapeutic range more gentle.
