Does Herbal First Aid exist?
Plants have always been used as first aid; dock leaves for nettle stings, plantain to draw splinters, etc. Nowadays, we can draw from our vast native pharmacopoeia using very simple remedies to bring instant relief for the minor ups and downs of life. There is great public interest in herbs used in this way and this year we are devoting Herbal Medicine Week 2008 to the use of herbal first aid. For further information talk to your local Medical Herbalist or Contact Us at the NIMH Head Office
We are kicking off our week of activities and events with a CPD seminar on the 26th May in Sheffield on Using Herbal Medicine in Acute Illness and First Aid. The seminar is given by Dedj Leibbrandt, MNIMH, who in conjunction with NIMH established a training clinic for post and undergraduate students that focuses on acute herbal medicine and herbal first. This clinic runs at various festivals / camping events during the summer.
Andrew Chevallier, FNIMH, has very kindly made available to us extracts from his book ‘Herbal First Aid Natural Medicine’. To read more please click on HERBAL FIRST AID KIT
In addition, Jane Gray, NIMH’s Vice-President has kindly given permission to use her TRAVEL KIT. Talk to your local Medical Herbalist for further information on the herbs listed in this kit. Click on Find a Medical Herbalist to find your local Medical Herbalist.
Members will find a wonderful e-book of Herbal First in the Member’s area. NIMH would like to thank Lettitia Derrington, MNIMH, for making her material available.
Please Note: the contents of herbal first aid kits are not substitutes in any part for first aid kits which must be provided under health and safety regulations and contain a set list of products.
