The Accreditation Board
NIMH Accreditation Board exists to ensure that consistently high standards are applied in the training of Medical Herbalists. In collaboration with the profession, the Board sets criteria for recognition of training courses deemed acceptable to bring students to the level at which they may become eligible for membership of the NIMH.
A course may be accredited when it covers all aspects of education in Herbal Medicine (see “Becoming a Medical Herbalist”) to the satisfaction of an appointed sub-committee of the Accreditation Board. Before being accredited, courses require a site visit and inspection and are re-accredited every five years thereafter to ensure standards are maintained.
Accredited courses submit annual reports to the Accreditation Board and have a representative on the Board to contribute to the continuing debate concerning the establishment and maintenance of good standards of education in Herbal Medicine. NIMH Accreditation Board provides a forum for sharing of good practice between higher education institutions and the profession.
The Board is composed as follows:
NIMH Accreditation Officer;
NIMH Director of Education;
Director of Studies (or equivalent) from each accredited programme;
A number of ordinary members of NIMH not less than the number of accredited programmes;
A number of non-NIMH professionals (Lay Members), greater than the number of ordinary NIMH members, from the fields of higher education and other health professions.
Secretary.
The Chair is a Lay Member elected by the Board.
If you would like to apply for a Lay post on the NIMH Accreditation Board please click on The Accreditation Board – Role of Lay Members to download a job description and contact the Accreditation Officer with your CV and brief covering letter.
The NIMH Accreditation Board regrets that they are unable to enter into discussion with students or staff about individual courses
