Remaining on The Register

Once on the Register of Qualified Practitioners members must undertake a range of professional requirements that are mandatory for remaining on the Register. These include programmes of initial and continuing professional development, and adherence to the codes of ethics and practice and the provisions of NIMH’s Memorandum and Articles of Association and that you are governed by NIMH’s complaints and disciplinary procedures.

In addition, members participate in educational activities such as mentoring new practitioners, clinical training and, and teaching. Research activities include journal publication, co-authoring articles for journals of herbalism, health, and pharmacology, and peer reviewing articles/books/other publications. Medical Herbalists also work as consultant experts to health food shops or herbal medicine manufacturers and provide advice and support to the public on use of herbs. Some members grow and make their own herbal medicines and some members manufacture and supply herbal medicine. Many of our members are involved in projects on conservation and sustainability (Ethnomedica Project).
